Last Sunday we had brunch at a local restaurant located by West Grand Traverse Bay. It started raining while we were there and has continued on and off all week. I got inspired once again to do another nautical or beach themed tablescape while staring across the bay.
I thought about a romantic interlude of a young couple.
She arrives wearing a plain but elegant navy blue dress adorned with a long pearl necklace. He's just come from work and looks handsome with his sleeves rolled up and his suit coat tossed over his shoulder. They decide to go for a quiet walk along the sandy beach exchanging stories about their day. The sound of the soft waves lapping makes them feel like they're in a world of their own. They have plans later in the evening so the return to have an early dinner. She removes the pearls and gracefully lays them across on the lantern.
Salad plates with the shape of Michigan are featured...a local favorite Cherry Vinaigrette dressing will top their spinach salad.
A heart denotes the love for their state...
Candles are lit...
Soft music plays in the background...
Rose Compass nautical stemware adds to the ambiance...
A favorite local wine will be enjoyed...
His voice soothes her mind as they enjoy some conversation. She stares at the soft glow of the candle as she romantically dreams about their future together.
Memories from visits to Mackinac Island fill her thoughts. They both dream of living somewhere like that some day.
A broiled whitefish dinner will be served with parmesan duchess potatoes, asparagus tips and a warm loaf of freshly baked bread.
Time to enjoy!
I will be joining

Liz, staring across the bay as the rain gently falls sounds glorious to me. Enjoyed your pretty table for two. Romantic and cozy as Southern Day Dreams commented.
ReplyDeleteGreat setting. I can see where you got your inspiration. I love aquas, so pretty and soothing. It all looks so romantic too, especially the addition of pearls and music.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful tablesetting and love the story to go along with the images…
ReplyDeleteLove the story Liz and the table is beautiful!

I love your story to accompany your table Liz.The glow of the candlelight is beautiful and your menu sounds divine. Sitting by the water's edge looking at the rain sounds wonderful, please send some our way!
ReplyDeleteHi Liz,
ReplyDeleteI love the story as much as the seascape tablesetting. Beautifully done. I could imagine this young, romantic couple who are so much in love having a cozy dinner together. The tablescape exemplifies their love and deep devotion to each other and their dreams to live near the water some day. I could easily imagine the young woman shyly placing the string of pearls around the lantern. I love the detailed touches like the compass glasses, sea glass, sea urchin lamp and framed photos of Mackinac Island. I hope you are still enjoying summer weather in Michigan. Wisconsin finally warmed up after its fall-like spell of weather. I would love to visit the West Grand Traverse Bay some time. It looks like a lovely place to visit.
Very pretty tablescape & story ~~ LOVE your nautical stemware!
ReplyDeleteEverything about the story and the tablescape speaks of romance. Wow! Love you details. Candles are beautiful. But... my favorite is how you thought of draping the pearls over the lantern. Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteOh Liz, you should write a book, as I want to hear the rest of the story! Your table is so romantic and dreamy and the menu sounds awesome. I love the soft glow of candlelight as the imaginary couple stare into each other's eyes and plan their future.
ReplyDeleteI do admire your lovely tablescape. Me I'm just not that creative with stuff like that. It's good that God made everyone different though.
ReplyDeleteAny time you can have a meal while overlooking water is a good time. Your lovely table made it an even better experience I am sure.
ReplyDeleteLiz,
ReplyDeleteYour words painted the most r o m a n t i c story I've read in years, dear friend!!!
I adore the combination of the lantern and the stemmed candle holder on the silver tray!!!
Thank you for a chance to walk down Paradise Lane!!!
Fondly,
Pat
Liz, I loved that you were inspired by the water, both in the lake, and that from the sky! Your romantic, short story, I hope, went from fiction to fact, as you and your hubby enjoyed that pretty, marine table setting, and a delicious meal.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend!
Hugs,
Poppy
Liz, I love the story that went along with the tablescape! It's always fun to play a little pretend. We never get too old to do that, do we? I also love that you got your inspiration from the water. Everything is just beautiful and I do love the pearls draped on the lantern!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Jann
I have to agree that the pearls draped across and tumbling down the side of the lantern is a very romantic picture indeed. I love the way the pearls encircle the shell tealight, that is such a lovely touch especially with the candle lit. The nautical wineglasses with the compasses bring thoughts of a soft breeze blowing off of the waters edge adding even more romance to this romantic story and tablescape. Love it! Have a wonderful week.... Candy
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful story, Liz. Your table is fabulous, too. Love the pearls and candle light, very pretty plates, too. Your beautiful picture of the water is inspiring indeed!
ReplyDeleteOh, I just pictured them Liz! What a romantic table. That candle is just beautiful. It is pretty before it is lit, and even prettier after. Your goblets are wonderful too. Maybe I need to be that romantic girl!
ReplyDeleteHi Liz! What a lovely table and the sweetest little love story. Your first snap of the storm rolling in over the bay is lovely too. Hope your week is going well.
