While having my morning coffee I was in a funk. I was noticing the
morning sky was showing signs of clearing so to get myself moving I reminded myself of my new mantra
"YOU CAN'T GET IT DONE IF YOU DON'T DO IT"!
I made this phrase up for myself to help keep me driven to
doing things. It is helpful when I feel humdrum and lazy which is more often than I care to admit!
I love catching the sun when I take pictures of my tablescapes but in order to catch it I have to be ready to shoot pictures at around 9:00 a.m.- needless to say I had to hustle to get this done!
I had a vague idea of what I wanted to do but after I read a blog post this morning at Rattlebridge Farm called "50 Shades of Red" the bell went off in my head!
When I saw this quote that was included in the post I mentioned "red is the ultimate cure for sadness" I got my color inspiration to pull a tablescape together.
What's to be sad about? Well you just can't help but be a bit sad when the days are gray more often than not and all too short! Nothing like a punch of red to cheer things up!
I chose my new HL French wire basket. The bronze finished rooster took center stage with a white linen napkin to dress it out and I included the rex begonia branches around the sides to finish it off.
I love these plates and they had to be a part of this scape.
I chose to repeat the black coloring with the wood charger and the flatware.
The rooster/chicken? ramekins became my napkin holders. The rick rack trim and enlarged checkered design work well with these dishes. I've used a similar combo before as seen "here"
The view outside is white on white with a touch of gray and green. Too monotone for me!
I got Dan to move my plate rack and center it on the wall (left-right) which turned into three days of work because of all the nail holes that needed patching then re-painting. I have left the wall space blank because I'm still deciding on what I'd like to do with it.
Just remember- YOU CAN'T GET IT DONE IF YOU DON'T DO IT!!
Now it's time for me to get my slow cooker going for this evening's meal!

Hi Liz, I love the saying you made up. I will have to keep that in mind!! Your table setting is gorgeous and I love the black and white rooster plates. Those would be perfect with my dishes. The pop of red is perfect to chase away the winter blahs. Lovely view outside your window.
ReplyDeleteStay warm, Hugs
A warm, beautiful tablescape, Liz. The little hen bowls and the rickrack napkins are so pretty with the toile dishes. Love the wire basket. Your red glasses are gorgeous. I know what you mean about that narrow moment in time where we can take photographs. I have trouble getting moving, too, and I'm going to remember your phrase in 2015. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the shout out.xxoo
ReplyDeleteLiz,
ReplyDeleteWell, dear friend, I'd say you got it done and quite nicely, too!!!
I love your black, white and red tablescape.
Those chicken ramekins as napkin holders are a d o r a b l e!!!
I must admit. . .I'd rather see your white SNOW
than our dry, barren brown here on this side of the Prairie!
Nice job on the moving of your cabinet.
I'm intrigued as to how you will fill the space.
Fondly,
Pat
I LOVE this table! Your white and black rooster plates look so good with the pops of red accent pieces, and those rick-a-rack napkins are PERFECT. What a fun way to get rid of the doldrums. I went to HomeGoods today to look for something new to play with, but wasn't lucky. Your table definitely put a smile on my face! Thanks!! Rosie @ The Magic Hutch
ReplyDeleteWell no wonder I decorated the house for Valentine's Day! It is a pretty pick me up! Your glasses are gorgeous. I set my table with red glasses too. Your checked napkins are adorable with the red rick rack.
ReplyDeleteLove your mantra! I'm going to adopt it as my own. Your table is so pretty. I happen to love roosters!
ReplyDeleteYour table is absolutely charming. Looking at this table would make anyone happy and motivated. Glad I found your blog!
ReplyDeleteLove your tablescape. I am a big fan of roosters, and the red really does pop against the black.
ReplyDeleteI've always loved red with black and white, and you have done it to perfection! Love your new mantra as well.
ReplyDeleteAs I sit here on this gloomy morning your happy table has energized me! Those chicken ramekins are too adorable and I love the way you tucked the napkin in so the rick rack looks like feathers! Love your bright black and white and red and your motivational motto!
ReplyDeleteJenna
Red definitely cheers things up! And so do roosters. Love this cute tablescape.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful, love the plates, Liz. It looks cold there. We have had 68 degrees the past 2 days so it has been nice here. I even went to the post office in shorts yesterday, lol...Christine
ReplyDeleteLiz, I'm all smiles over your chicken ramekins with the tail feather nakins! So festive and cheery for a winter table!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love those rooster plates! Very fun setting... :-)

Love your blog and the whole theme of your table! Black, white (checks) and red are my colors so I am going to get busy now (using your mantra) and set up my table for winter/Valentines Day! So glad I found your blog. I have subscribed to it!
ReplyDeleteI'm grinning from ear to ear too. First of all I love your black and white rooster plates, secondly the chicken ramekins are the sweetest little chicks ever. The red is the icing on the cake. I love it! I have been gathering my reds (napkins, tablecloths, & dinnerware all week) and I am ready to brighten up the breakfast table too.
ReplyDeleteHi Liz,
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful your 'shade of red' tablescape is! I love the combination of red, black, and white, and have plenty of it in my own kitchen. Your black and white gingham, different tones of red, and sparkling white, along with the two rooster motifs, make for a very bold and bright array of rustic radiance!
Now, I know exactly what you mean by 'You can't get it done if you don't do it', and here's a little poem I memorized in the third grade, back in Canada, which I recite to myself, when I need a little pep talk. Enjoy!
Hugs,
Poppy
It Couldn’t Be Done
By Edgar Albert Guest
Somebody said that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!
Somebody scoffed: “Oh, you’ll never do that;
At least no one ever has done it;”
But he took off his coat and he took off his hat
And the first thing we knew he’d begun it.
With a lift of his chin and a bit of a grin,
Without any doubting or quiddit,
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it.
There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done,
There are thousands to prophesy failure,
There are thousands to point out to you one by one,
The dangers that wait to assail you.
But just buckle in with a bit of a grin,
Just take off your coat and go to it;
Just start in to sing as you tackle the thing
That “cannot be done,” and you’ll do it.
Black, white and red are enough to make me happy, but add the roosters and you've gone all the way!
ReplyDeleteYep, this is a HAPPY table! I love the black, white and red. And those little chicken ramekins!! How cute. Cheerful table for a wintery day!!
ReplyDeleteYes, by all means is colorful and fun! I do love red, black and white and throwing in the rooster is great.
ReplyDeleteCute napkins too. Hope this cheers you, because it does me.
I just LOVE this table, it really does cheer you up!! The napkins are adorable and the chicken/hen ramikins are what stole my heart! I am inspired to set another table now too. I have been thinking about doing a red table but was waiting for Valentine's. I am gonna do one NOW!!!
ReplyDeleteCame ack to ask you where you got the black chargers? They would be so good with lots of tables!!
ReplyDeleteA great pick me up tablescape! I love the checks with the red and black theme. A great morning tabl.
ReplyDeleteBlessings My Friend,

ReplyDeleteSo pretty. I love the rooster plates! So festive. xoox
ReplyDeleteLiz, love your mantra! And love your little bowl with the napkin! How cute is that! Very pretty table.
ReplyDeleteSheila
Beautiful table, Liz. I have always loved those plates, especially with red accents. Great photos with the sun dancing off the table. Those bowls are perfect for holding those cute napkins.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend.
Oh, I need to steal your mantra as my own! Your table is so fresh and pretty with all of the reds and blacks. Clever idea to put the napkins in the ramekins. I have a few of those plates and a few in blue. I love them. laurie
ReplyDeleteLove your pops of red! Great napkins.
ReplyDelete- Alma, The Tablescaper
I love your rooster dishes, Liz! That is a good mantra to have. I find that is my problem, but once I actually get moving I'm good. That is especially true of going to the gym. The hardest part is getting myself there!
ReplyDeleteI love it, Liz! Red absolutely makes you feel better. It's beautiful with the black and white on your tablescape. I have a little red in every room. My friends tease me because they've heard me talk about it so much. "You need a little red in every room." Ha. I adore your rooster plates! If they suddenly are missing, it might be I've secretly come to visit and taken them! (It might be easier to just tell me where you found them.) Your rooster and wire egg basket are the perfect centerpiece. I know what you mean about the plate shelf. I noticed all sorts of wall scarring when I removed mine for painting. The paint can is on my island now, waiting for me to get moving and get it done (my motto). The snow is so pretty there...not jealous of the clouds but would love some of that white landscaping!
