I've got the Christmas deco put away and now I'm bringing back the decorative items I hid away during the holiday season.
My home has next to no blue decorating wise so I like sneaking a bit of it in this kitchen dining nook. I love French Country so try to get in a bit of is here.
I started out knowing I wanted some blue and white. My bowls on the top shelf mingled during the holiday season on the kitchen counter and held various things but I needed to get the "cool" metal tone back over to this corner to pick up on the chandelier and I like them displayed here.
I decided Mr. Rooster was going to get into this scene especially since I like the French Country look. He is sporting a linen napkin tied at the base of the stand.
I went to my dish closet and these "Bombay" cobalt blue dishes said "me me" along with the Fleur de' lis plates that for some reason I never tried here before.
I added the little cow creamer to break up some of the symmetry just because!
The Bombay plates have a silver rim which I hadn't paid any thought to until I brought them out to use.
The old pitcher was in my Mother's collection and is a favorite of mine. It's flawed with crazing and a few marks but I love it anyway. I happened to have coffee mugs that match the dinner plates so I decided to add them in. The bowls on the top shelf and the two trivets which get used on the table for hot things are all the aluminum. They are a collection I started from Wendell August Forge. When our son lived in Pennsylvania I would visit their store and pick up an item or two each visit. I like them because they look like Pewter.
Those of you who follow me have seen the big cobalt blue vase (on the right) before. These plates have the same blue in them so this works out well. I haven't even brought back the things that go on the wall yet or the usual wheat filler that goes in the vase. I'm stuck inside for the most part since winter has hammered down on us in full force over the past few days. I'm going to take my time bringing the decorative things back and of course trying new ideas out with where they go!
So this is my first bit of decorating for 2015!

I've been pouring over my past and present Country French Magazines lately.
I adore the elegance of the Country French style, but not all the busy patterns.
The metallic and the white blends exquisitely with the blue in your plate rack.

ReplyDeleteYour blue and white plates are perfect for this time of the year! They look great with your other dishes in that lovely plate cabinet. I use blue in our upstairs 'office.' I might do a post on it this week but it's not as gorgeous as yours!!

ReplyDeleteI like the blue touches, Liz! Pretty plates. My daughter inherited a couple of cobalt blue glass globes from her grandma. I have no idea what they are for, but they're beautiful when the light shines through them. Nice beginnings for the new year.
ReplyDeleteI love the Country French look of the Bombay plates with the Fleur De Lis plates. The rooster looks so charming on the top of the plate rack, he ties the look together rather handily. I will be changing out my Christmas look in the china cabinets for the rest of Winter. The blue and white is so refreshing after the reds and greens of the holiday season.... Candy

ReplyDeleteLiz, those cobalt plates have to be some of the prettiest blue plates I have ever seen and I love how you stacked them with the white! I also have no blue, lots of aqua, but no blue. I am in love with these though!
