With all the attention to tartan plaid this year I decided to bring out this cute pair of doll sized chairs that I've been keeping in storage.
Does anybody remember the Santabears? Our Michigan based store called Hudson's was selling them starting in the late 80's and into the 90's. Marshall Fields was doing the same so I know a lot of people bought them. During one of those years we purchased these two chairs that were being sold for the Santabears. I used them for several years but eventually they fell by the wayside. We kept them in good storage containers though and they are as good as new!
I made two mini throws for the chairs with some winter white felt.
I used this doll and the little bear below in last year's Santa sleigh.
I found the "Believe "pillow at JoAnn's and I have another pillow
coming for the other chair from a gal through Etsy but it's not here yet.
I set them below the black plate rack since they also have black in the pattern and I thought it would look cozy there. I tried them by my main Christmas tree but the green clashed a bit with the tree skirt.
I laid out a new look on the plate rack and brought out my Santa picture that I've been re-using each year for a while now.
The NOEL tins are for tea lights but I chose to stuff them with little trees and snow.
Found these adorable little birds at a local specialty shop and had to have a couple!
On black Friday I went into a Pottery Barn store and saw this little chalk board picture. I got 20% off on it so I was pleased. I was very disciplined that day and that's all I bought!
To0 cute!
I layered some tartan plates from Williams Sonoma with the deer plates from Pottery Barn that I got last year.
I added a Cardinal to sit in front of the garland I laid across the top.
Moving over to the corner...
Hey Santa!
I set this long needle pine tree in the corner on top of the big cobalt blue vase that sets here with the wheat in it. I covered the top of the vase with a plate that fit right in the opening. I tied a tree skirt around the top leaving an opening just big enough to set the tree on. The tree is adorned with wool felt garland and wool ornaments that I found at T.J.Maxx
Everything had to be fairly light since this kind of soft needle tree doesn't support much.
Cute reindeer
I found the tree skirt at T.J. Maxx. The flip side is all red and white checked but it was a bit too much so I used the plain red side with the checkered border. I tied on a pair of black skates up near the top of the tree skirt which show in the first pictures but not in this one. That's what happens when you take pictures at different times!
At the bottom I used a galvanized tray to set some trees and giant pine cones in with a bit of snow too! Both the trees were from T.J. Maxx...I love the Scandinavian look that all these felt pieces offered.
The chandelier with burlap and bells
As you can also see my Amaryllis and Christmas Cactus are blooming now.
The one grew to 3 ft. tall so I set them all on the floor near the window to create a cluster.
I've never had Amaryllis bloom so quickly and at the same time have the Christmas Cactus blooming!
Beautiful decorations. Those little chairs are adorable. Love the red and checked tree skirt.
ReplyDeleteOh they are perfect Liz!! That whole space looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite type of Christmas decoration. I love the classic, rustic, woodsey look. I would love a Santa Claus picture like yours. I will look around when I go shopping today. Thanks for the inspiration ideas :) Merry Christmas! -Bev
ReplyDeleteOh Liz, I had to look at each picture more than once. This is such an inviting Christmas space, and I love everything in it. Those chairs are just too cute, and I love the tree skirt with the checked ruffle. Your shelves are decorated so pretty, and how smart to use the votive holders for Christmas trees. The burlap themed chandelier is wonderful too. laurie
ReplyDeleteSo I'm leaving the house in a few minutes to go grocery shopping. I'm going to pop my head into TJ Maxx to see if they have one of those skirts left!!! I hadn't seen one in there this season, but who knows...they get different stuff in all the time. I LOVE that skirt!!! That is one of the prettiest I've seen in awhile! I'll be near a couple of other TJ Maxx locations over the weekend and then another when I go to the doctor on Tuesday, so I'm going to look in all of them. Fingers crossed!!!
ReplyDeleteYou have really made that corner area a Christmas treasure!!! What a happy view when you're having a meal! I LOVE the chairs!!! Those are so cool! They have a very Ralph Lauren look to them. They are indeed a classic! I'm glad you were able to keep in them in containers that would maintain their integrity. They're wonderful!!!
Hi Liz, everything is gorgeous. I love the tartan chairs from Hudson's. I loved J.L. Hudson in the day.
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen is gorgeous in reds, black and plaids. I love your wall display. Just so inviting!
Thanks for the inspiration.
Hugs and have a nice weekend.

ReplyDeleteLovely decor and your amaryllis is amazing!
ReplyDeleteThose chairs are darling Liz!
ReplyDeleteI was thinking of you this morning.
May you find love, joy and peace this Christmas Season and health and happiness in the New Year!
You are a blessing to many including myself.
There is so much to love here - tartan plaid and that little nook with the chairs.
ReplyDeleteHappy Christmas!
Liz,
ReplyDeleteOh, dear friend. . .at first glance, I thought your chairs were full sized!!!
Silly me!!!
These are adorable!!!
Many years ago, my brother bought me a full sized Santa Bear with the year on the suit!!!
He would have been adorable in these chairs.
I put the pair on my bed, instead!
Of all the decor you've had on that black shelf. . .
I am totally smitten with the Christmas decor!!!
Those little birds, too, too cute!!!
Fondly,
Pat
Your chairs are so sweet under the black plate shelf. All the tartans, especially the WS plates that I'm salivating over, mix together so well for a fun winter look. I really like the deer plates, as well. You're tempting me to paint my plate shelf a different color...never have been completely pleased with the current color. The black is stunning with your decorative items and dishes. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas season!
