I was about to call this Purple Rain because of all the rain we've been getting and even up to a few minutes before I took pictures this morning it was trying to start raining again!
Gees.... enough! OK I'll stop whining.
Cuisine Kathleen made a challenge to do a tablescape with lots of purple NO ORANGE and it should scream fall or at least say it loudly! I have to admit I didn't think I could do it but after I sifted through my linens I discovered that I did indeed have some purple that gave me the kickstart I needed.
This black metal pumpkin is actually a candle holder but I decided to make it into a floral centerpiece. Purples, browns and ivory made their way into it along with a little scarecrow!
There is a metal candle holder in the center that I applied a styrofoam piece over it and that became the base for my flowers. I stuffed apples and pears at the bottom to conceal the styrofoam.
I used the same pattern in my last tablescape as shown "here" and I think you'll agree they took on a completely different look here. The arrangement I made sits on top of the white pedastal and the design works very well with the pattern on the dishes. I opened my storage closet to look for a candle and saw the pedestals sitting there and had an ah-ha moment. They also help tie in the white from the dishes. I chose to use the ruffled placemats in an overlapping verticle pattern which made a big impact on the design.
The napkin rings are floral picks from Michael's. I took off a couple of pieces that were too gaudy and I bent the metal pick in a loop to serve as a napkin ring. I liked the burlap and the gold in the sunflower ties into the tablecloth. The little gourds were something new at Michael's. I felt the bowl needed something so in they went! The tablecloth is a gold on gold leaf pattern by Now Designs.
The napkins are from Williams Sonoma (clearance) I like to keep an eye on their clearance sales Once in a while I score! I think I have the colors of a football team here!
Ole' Mr. Sun was bouncing in and out which I thanked him for!

Liz, it's gorgeous! I don't think I would have been able to come up with a purple tablescape. I love the way you placed the mats, and the china is so pretty. So clever to use those floral picks as napkin rings. They make such a statement on this table. I the pumpkin candle holder filled with flowers is another clever idea. laurie
ReplyDeleteThat is very rich looking - royal, in fact! Very pretty.
ReplyDeleteOh, Liz, you have more than met the challenge!! This table has so many things that I like: your centerpiece, your plates (LOVE the pattern), your linens and your clever napkin rings, gee, everything is wonderful! I love the photo of the sun streaming across the table! Rosie @ The Magic Hutch
ReplyDeleteHi Liz, this purple fall tablesetting is gorgeous. You sure pulled it off in a beautiful way. So inviting and the touch of golden from the tablecloth really makes the purple pop. Love the sweet little scarecrow.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful job. You nailed this tablescape.
Hugs
Liz,
ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS Purple Autumnal Tablescape, dear friend!!!
We, were on the same page with the purple and gold hues. . .
but I always look for an opportunity to share my heirloom silver,
thus the switch!!!
Speaking of switch. . .I love, LOVE, L O V E how you switched
the placemats and overlapped them on your round dining room table.
I may "borrow" your placemat placement in the near future!!!
The bronze (brown) mums in your centerpiece are calling my name!!!
( I recently purchased a new linen hemstitch tablecloth in that exact hue!)
Your stemware is exquisite!!! I adore your "clearance" napkins!!!
This purple and gold tablescape has just the right amount of purple
to add elegance to your amazing tablescape design!!!
Well done!!!
Fondly,
Pat
Very beautiful...love the elegant table and its purple color. That tablecloth is wonderful and I love how you made the napkin rings.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous table Liz. Love purple with gold! The dishware is so pretty and elegant. Such a warm and inviting table to sit down and enjoy. The centerpiece is striking. I really ;like it when we can re-purpose things...
ReplyDeleteLiz,
ReplyDeleteI am loving your table! I am so glad you found some purple napkins and could participate. Your centerpiece is just gorgeous too....loving that black pumpkin!
That is gorgeous Liz, and your centerpiece is stunning! & I'm stunned that you made it, lol. You are certainly talented. Love the pattern of your dishes. A fun challenge for sure!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! I like the amber tones with your purples, and the centerpiece is unique.
ReplyDeleteLovely, table, Liz! What a great impact those purple placemats make! Your dishes and centerpiece are all so pretty, too! Happy Fall!
ReplyDeleteYou did it! You did it!!! I just had no clue at all what to do, but YOU did it! It looks really great, Liz! The gold color along with the white of the dishes helps to keep the table from getting too deep in the dark. The contrast is really effective. I really love the riser you used, too. Not only does it add a little grandeur to the centerpiece, but it brings in a little more of that necessary lighter color.
ReplyDeleteYou did a really, really good job with mixing patterns. It can get a little ho-hum sometimes when a single pattern is used. For fall decorating, though, it really ups the ante when you effectively mix patterns like you did.
I'm glad the sun finally decided to cooperate!
Beautiful table Liz!! You have met the challenge with flying colors. I love the use of the white pedestal and the white patterned dishes. They really do bring a nice light contrast to the purple and gold (I wish I had used some lighter colors now). The centerpiece is especially pretty as are the napkins and placemats. I had a lot of problems with the sunlight participating (or mostly not participating) while I took pictures off and on for three days. I did end up changing a lot of the tablescape anyway. Your table seems to have a wonderful balance of light to dark. Very pretty..... Candy
ReplyDeleteGorgeous table, Liz! The purple against the gold is very striking. Great napkin rings...I never think to look at floral picks as something other than their intended purpose...maybe next time I will! Love your centerpiece.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week.
Oh Liz you have outdone yourself, so beautiful the purple and gold mixed together, I have just gotta get some purple, love the centerpiece, so perfect for this table, all so inviting...
ReplyDeleteLiz you have so many cute ideas, I just love the purple it kinda tones down the orange for Halloween.
ReplyDelete((HUGS)) Joanne
Oh so pretty, Liz! Love your centerpiece and the deep purple color you used....Christine
ReplyDeleteSomehow I missed Kathleen's post about the challenge - or forgot about it once I knew the theme. I have no purple, so that puts me out. Anyway, your table is gorgeous! I love the dishes you used with your purple place mats and highlights. You did such a nice job, rain and all!
ReplyDeleteBlessings~
Kim

ReplyDeleteHey Liz!! I finally made it to blogland--and I have really missed out! So glad I popped in to see this beauty! I adore the combination of the gold and purple, guess there was a purple challenge and you met it with flying colors! Love love the stemware, great choice!! I have a similar riser and I loved how you used it to elevate the centerpiece. Such creativity! Hope you've been doing ok, and that you have dried out! It's rained a bit today, and we certainly can use it! Take care, Betsy
ReplyDeleteBeautiful job, Liz! I love all the pretty purples and yes, it does say Fall. Thanks for taking the challenge. I don't know, so many people email me and say they like it, and then I read comments like too bad you couldn't use orange! Grr... the point of the challenge is to do something different, and you met it grandly.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! Love the amber glasses and adore the clever use of the floral picks, they look perfect at your table!
