I was inspired after seeing a couple of pictures with apothecary jars used in bathrooms for things like cotton balls, q-tips, soaps and such. I went looking for some apothecary jars and ended up at World Market finding this nice one topped with a bird.
My bathroom is designed with accents of plants and flowers. I did a post showing it "here" a while back. Not much has changed with the exception of my new apothecary jar.

So what did I do- I stacked the various soap bars with some sponges and pieces of "grape bark" that I found at Pottery Barn. I have to tell you it's a treat to open the top and smell all of this!!
99% of the time except when visitors come by This is "my" bathroom. Dan uses the lower level bathroom. Our home is a mid 70's basic raised ranch and there isn't a master bathroom. We remodeled the bathroom in 1999 and I incorporated as much useful storage space as I could along with improving it with the new tile and quality upgrades with the sink and faucets. I went with brass at the time because it was on the heels of the new trend that started for brushed nickle (which was priced way out there at the time). So I waited it out all these years and to some degree it's come back!
The tray doesn't match anything but I liked it. I thought about painting it but I like the finish it has. I got that a couple of years ago from One King's Lane along with the bottles with the bees.
It's designed to look resemble a repousse finish in antiqued silver
.
This is an extra piece of soap that was sent to me which gave me the idea to cut small pieces off the soap bars to use rather than putting out a whole one.

On the left of my vanity is a wreath that my son and daughter in-law sent to me last March for my birthday. It's all natural with dried leaves and flowers including blue hydrangeas. It fit in well with the theme I have going.

A few years ago I added some bronze accents to the bathroom you might say to quiet down some of the brass but the faucets were too expensive to consider replacing so they've stayed.

This is the most glammed up I've ever had the counter area. If you click on the link I added near the top of the post you can see the pictures on the wall better- they aren't all askew like they look in this picture.

I took it outside so the colors and accents could be seen better. The soaps have a broken off look rather than evenly cut which I liked- gives it a little more of an organic look.

The sponges and grape bark add a bit more to the organic appeal.

ReplyDeleteS-L-I-C-K!!! I don't know what on earth prompted you to add the bark and the sponges, but they are the PERFECT thing to make this into a work of art for your bathroom! Wow! That is really neat! I love soaps that aren't perfectly shaped. It reminds me of back when people routinely made their own soap. Smart idea to cut off small pieces so that the soap isn't wasted.

Since everything eventually comes back in style, you were smart to wait out the brass rotation. I'm loving your bee bottles, too. I adore royal bees! Your bath is completely lovely.

I just love that apothecary jar, Liz! It is such a great size and I love the bird on the lid. It looks great holding some soaps. Perfect for a bathroom, too. I'll bet it smells really good.
ReplyDeleteThe apothecary jar looks very attractive with the soaps and the bark. Perfect for the bathroom counter. I used to fill my apothecary jars with candy for a candy bar during the holidays. Now the just sit empty in the storage room. I think I will use your idea and give them a new purpose in my bathroom. My son makes oatmeal soap for me and I think the rough cut chunks would look great. Thanks for the inspiration Liz!
