Kitchen Window Vignette

Creating a Vignette in the Kitchen window became my quest recently.

A few days back I posted about winning a bowl from a giveaway at The Enchanted House and I talked about how much I liked a lot of the things I saw in the pictures she provided.  This kitchen above is from that post and the lemons had me at first sight.  I stared at it a lot and thought well, I have some pitchers, and somewhere I knew I had some lemons so off I went on a treasure hunt to my storage area.

My window configuration is quite different so this isn't like the picture, only inspired by it.
I loaded up this etched glass cloche with apples and the lemons I found. The lemons are actually a cluster on a pick I so worked to mingle them in with the apples.

The old white pitcher was something I found at my Mom's a while back.  The silk boxwoods are something I've used before but had been in storage for a while.  They were all the same height, so I decided to pull them apart and shortened two of them so all three are different heights now.

I noted the yellow pitcher and vase in the inspiration photo picked up on the lemons for color, but I only had green so I decided the apples would be my tie into the green pitcher.

With the bright white snow outside it's hard to get a decent picture.  I played with different settings on the camera and worked to get a picture that showed some definition.

Leaving the camera on automatic created this kind of look.  It tries to balance the light but the foreground disappears.

I was looking for something new to do with the windowsill and that picture gave me some inspiration!   I also got inspired and removed everything from the counters and cleaned the surface and then did some rearranging.

All cozied up...
I think I'll add some tall wooden spoons to the green pitcher, but I don't own any right now.

  3. You just used all my favorites...fruit, ironstone and boxwood. Love the look, it's actually spring-y despite the white stuff outside your window. I hear more is on the way?

  5. What a wonderful vignette you have put together to be able to see every day in the Kitchen. I love the ironstone and the boxwood. That view from you office is very nice - looks like you got lots of snow. We don't get much snow here in Dallas, just cold! I will be glad when spring comes this year.

  6. My kitchen window area is not quite as big as the one in the top photo, but it's configured pretty much the same. The area has been sitting bare since I took all the Christmas stuff down. I've been wholly uninspired about what to put there next, not wanting to go back to what I had for sanity's sake. Seeing what a pretty vignette you cobbled together with things you already own gives me hope and inspiration! I think I'll be able to knock something out now. I've been dragging my heels because I want the kitchen painted first, but that probably won't happen until summer. May as well go ahead and make it as nice as I can in the interim!

I like those boxwood topiaries! They're nice and wispy!

  7. Liz, it looks fabulous!! You know, I don't have a kitchen window. I can look directly out through the sunroom, but no actual window in my kitchen! :(

  9. I believe this is the first time I see your kitchen. And what a lovely vignette to welcome me to it... amazes me how you manage any cooking in there? It's so lovely and I'd be looking through the window to that amazing white blanket until husband shouted "what's this smell?"... it was dinner I'd answer inwardly ahahahahahah
I love the fruit inside the cloche idea. Even for a tablescape. You really have a worderful eye for spotting bet settings.
    Thank you for sharing,

  13. Liz,
    Elegantly displayed, dear friend!!!
There is no kitchen window here on the Prairie,
so I must create vignettes on the countertops!!!
    Thanks for sharing!!!
