Orangey Anniversary!

Spring started out with a fast start in March. It's going down on record as one of the warmest March's throughout the country!

Then....it cooled off and we've had several hard frosts and my poor magnolia got the worst of it.

It was full of big healthy buds all ready to pop open, and then 2 hard freezes two weeks in a row proved to be too much for it.  It will leaf out soon.

Traverse City is known for it's cherry industry, but this year is going to provide a very low yield because of the freezes.
They predict a 90% loss already.
Pretty sad looking isn't it!  What can
you do- that's the way nature is....no guarantees!
My weeping cherry tree looks pretty decent considering
the harsh frosts that we've had.

On another note, we are celebrating our
34th Wedding Anniversary on Sunday.
I was presented with a bouquet of long stemmed roses from hubby, so I thought I would share a few pictures!
These were the perfect color to pick me up since the spring has sort of let me down!
I plan to get the rake working on the garden beds..... I know most of you have probably already done that, but we had a brief snowfall just last week Friday!  Yep!  It didn't last but it's kind of crazy here!

I hope you are having a pleasant weekend!

  1. The freeze here was awful also. Damage to quite a number of things.

  2. We didn't get below freezing here, thankfully, but my lilac has not bloomed yet, it might be a little early for these parts. Happy Anniversary to you and your hubby! I love your orange roses, I love all orange flowers all year long. xo

  4. Liz, the weather has truly been a rollercoaster this year. Fortunately, we didn't have any surprise freezes, after things started to bloom. At this point, our biggest threat is high winds doing damage, from the aggressive thunderstorms of late. Happy Anniversary to you and your hubby! The flowers are gorgeous! May you have many, many more!

  6. Seeing all those beautiful flowers really cheered me up on this gloomy, rainy New England morning. Absolutely gorgeous colors! Happy Anniversary!
